Raising a daughter with Dravet syndrome, a serious form of epilepsy, Paige Figi – a mother of three of Colorado - was desperate to find a treatment that would help her then 5-year-old Charlotte live a better life. For years Paige tried numerous medications and treatments to reduce Charlotte’s seizures, some that lasted hours and required life support. But none of the traditional pharmaceuticals and treatments was reliable or successful in reducing and helping Charlotte’s life-limiting condition. Looking for a final result, Paige researched alternative therapies, discovering a type of hemp oil that had no major side effects or psychotropic effects. Paige started giving Charlotte natural, therapeutic hemp oil with low-THC and high-CBD (CBD, or Cannabidiol, is a known anticonvulsant, reducing epileptic symptoms without the psychotropic effect). Before ingesting the oil, Charlotte had hundreds of seizures per week. She now has, on average, less than three per month.

Through the Coalition, Paige has received help from bipartisan members in both the House and the Senate in introducing H.R. 1635 and S. 1333 which is rapidly gaining support from both sides of aisle since their introduction, with nearly 50 Members of Congress – including notable leaders such as Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Sen. Orin Hatch (R-UT) – who have added their voices in the fight to legalize hemp oil. Through Paige's journey of finding a successful therapy for her daughter’s seizures, she has convened a chorus of voices of more than 15,000 families. Mrs. Figi and her journey of helping Charlotte has been featured in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNN with a special hosted by Dr. Sanjay Gupta and most recently in Dateline NBC.
