Primer is a base that gives the shadow something to stick to. It makes the colors more pigmented, prevents creasing, and last longer. You can buy this, the most popular is Urban Decay's Primer Potion. However, this can get expensive. Any concealer or foundation you already own makes a good alternative. Just apply from the lash-line to the brow-bone. A highlight is usually a white eyeshadow, or any light color for that matter. It goes under the highest point of the brow-bone to lift the eye and add shimmer. Also on the inside corner of the eye to bring more light to the inside of the eye, making it look bigger and brighter. It can be added to just about any eyeshadow look, but looks especially good on smokey eyes.
