Great Head Trail

For hiking families, the rugged coast of Maine is irresistible. Acadia National Park — the first national park east of the Mississippi — is home to countless plants and animals, as well as the tallest mountain on the nation's Atlantic coast. Within the park, hikers enjoy the refreshing Great Head Trail.

This two-mile hike, rated as moderate, is ideal for families who prefer shorter and less intense hikes. But make no mistake about it, the circular hike brings you close to breathtaking sights, including dramatic pink granite cliffs, sandy shores of pulverized shells and icy-cold water.
