Forever young

Are you tired of covering up the signs of aging? Want to change your lifestyle to slow down the aging process instead? Here are a few anti-aging tips that will have you looking and feeling younger in no time.

Woman drinking water

Eat your water

According to Dr. Howard Murad, skin care expert and author of The Water Secret: The Cellular Breakthrough to Look and Feel 10 Years Younger, "Dehydration of the skin causes the appearance of premature aging and wrinkles." In addition to hydrating through drinking water, Dr. Murad says you should properly hydrate your skin by eating your water! "Colorful raw fruits and vegetables are the best form of water for your cells since they provide structured water, which stays in your system long enough for your body to put it to good use," says Dr. Murad. "As a bonus, these great sources of water are rich in cell-protecting antioxidants and health-enhancing fiber. Your skin will look and feel healthier... and so will you!

Use a moisturizer with sunscreen

If you're serious about your anti-aging mission, find a moisturizer with an SPF of 30 or higher, and use it every day – rain or shine. Great SPF moisturizers, like Aveeno Positively Ageless Youth Perfecting Moisturizer with SPF 30, will help prevent sun damage while working with your skin's natural renewal process to reduce lines and wrinkles while revealing younger-looking skin.

Hit the snooze button

We all know it feels good to get a good night's sleep, but did you know it helps you look good, too? They don't call it beauty sleep for nothing! Dermatologist and anti-aging expert Dr. Nicholas Perricone says, "a good night's sleep is one of the best friends a glowing, youthful complexion can have." He explains that getting sufficient sleep is a critical part of an anti-aging lifestyle because our cells undergo a repair process while we slumber. A study conducted by researchers at London's University of Westminster showed that a later wake-up time resulted in lower levels of the stress-inducing hormone cortisol. "This is a significant finding," says Dr. Perricone, "because elevated levels of cortisol will accelerate the aging process."

Juice it up

Of course, coupling a balanced and nutritious diet with regular exercise is essential to good health. But did you know that some foods are recommended specifically for their anti-aging properties? Fruits and vegetables like apples, cucumbers, carrots and kale are all rich in phytonutrients, which can improve your health and protect you from disease. Invest in a juicer, and squeeze your own anti-aging elixirs. Make sure you drink your freshly squeezed juice right away to take advantage of its full nutritional benefits, as well as to avoid contamination.
