Women in their 40s must strive to look young without it looking forced or out of place.

Warm highlights

Multi-tonal highlights bring flat haircolor back to life. Warm, strategically placed highlights and lowlights can add depth and dimension to your hair color, making textured hairstyles look fabulous. Instead of platinum blonde or deep black hair, consider a light brown color with honey highlights or a darker brown shade infused with auburn tones.

Lots of layers

Your hair may start to thin out when you reach your 40s. You can add a little volume and texture with a layered cut. A short to medium cut that is layered all over is your best bet. Add a little "messy" appeal to this versatile hairstyle by using a scrunching or texturizing spray when you blow it dry.
