Szechuan chicken hits the top spot as the dish most often ordered at the Chinese takeaway. However, it is also one of the easiest to make at home. Next time you have the urge for Chinese food why not skip the takeaway and try this simple recipe instead. You will impress the whole family.

Serving size 4

Ingredients:

  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 chopped garlic cloves
  • 5 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1-1/2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 6 chopped spring onions
  • 1 chopped red chilli pepper

Directions:

  1. Brown the chicken with oil in the frying pan.
  2. Add the spring onions and garlic and fry for five minutes.
  3. Stir in the soy sauce, vinegar and sugar and cook for seven minutes.
  4. Stir in the pepper and cook for two minutes.
  5. Serve with Jasmine rice.
