In the Ugandan school system, a nine-month gap exists for students between the end of secondary school and the beginning of university. This break is designed as a time for college-bound students to raise money for their education, but in this male-dominated society, many women fall through the cracks, failing to find fair work and finish their education. That’s where Sseko Designs comes in. The company that sells handmade sandals was founded to provide a safe, supportive place for women to earn money for their college degrees.
