Create a yoga sanctuary at home

Creating a sanctuary within your home for yoga or meditation in the New Year allows you to slip away unnoticed for a needed respite during a hectic day, whether for a few minutes or an hour. The space you set aside does not have to be large, but it will need to have the elements of simplicity, quiet, balance and oneness with nature. If you cannot use an entire room, a Japanese-style folding partition can easily define the area. As YOGADHARMA founder and co-director Amy Cronise-Mead says, "Make it a place that you long to go to. It doesn't have to have much, but what is there should be beautiful and meaningful to you. A simple altar with a candle and an image of a beloved go a long way. One single flower in a vase. Texts from teachers who you resonate with can also be there as a source of inspiration, as can a few powerful images of master yoga teachers. A few things that sing to your heart and leave the rest outside."

Amanda Tapping is one of the most beloved scifi stars in recent memory. Not only did she star on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis on Syfy, she successfully managed to take Sanctuary from a web series to a Syfy show in its fourth season! In her spare time, she runs an amazing not-for-profit organization to help children in need. Not sure when she has time to sleep! When actress Amanda Tapping began work on Stargate SG-1 back in early 1997, she wasn't even sure the series would even last beyond the initially-contracted two-season run on Showtime. So of course, the idea that the show would ultimately last more than 10 seasons and break Neilsen ratings records was too far-fetched to even consider.

Now starring in her own series on the SyFy Channel, Sanctuary, Amanda Tapping shared her thoughts with us about projects past and present, the best and worst parts of her job now, and whether or not we'll ever see her again in the Stargate realm.
