Water toys are lots of fun for kids of all ages. Consider Super Soaker water guns, splash paddles, and of course, the good old Slip 'N Slide. Water balloon launchers, kids' sprinklers, kiddie pools and an assortment of other water toys are available without breaking the bank, at Walmart, Target and other retailers.

Swimming is so much fun for the kids in the summer, and it's a fantastic way to keep them active too. For summer birthdays, a new swimsuit, cover-up, swim goggles, swim vest or other swim accessories are great choices. You can also give your child toys to play with in the pool -- from water basketball to sinking rings. If you don't have a pool in your own backyard, most areas have a community pool that is free or very low cost for families in the neighborhood.

The best bet for kids, especially when it's crazy hot, are water and pool toys. Or a trip to the beach, I'd have loved that when I was a kid. Don't worry about getting something expensive though, I've never found a kid who cares about the price tag.

It is still a million degrees outside so all of the water toys/ swimwear suggestions sound like a home run to me!

The weekend getaway idea is the best! You could also do an overnight to a hotel with a pool and the kids would be set!

These are all great ideas! I really love the weekend getaway idea too. I think we can often forget about that one! But a quick weekend getaway is sometimes just what everyone in the family needs. Thanks for the reminder!
