Hot Hollywood nursery design trends

It's all there in black and white

Pam O'Hallaron, lead designer for PoshTots.com, explains, "Black and white hues can be simple without being stark." She advises parents to begin with a neutral colors and says, "this basic palette can be like a blank canvas awaiting color and texture."

Hollywood's Greg Grande, set decorator for the hit series Friends, recently chose PoshTots' black and white toile glider and antique white changing chest to accent last season's much-anticipated nursery set.

Top decorators refer to a black and white palette as the "little black dress" of nursery design: it's perfect for any room and can be as elegant or casual as your d�cor dictates.

Personal design preferences from the minimal to the extravagant can be satisfied with simple additions of lamps, wall art, linens or objets d'art. A splash of color also becomes a fabulous complement to a black and white motif.

Introduce rich red, warm yellow and fresh green with adornments like lamps or add a crib that makes a color statement.

Think pink

Another Hollywood trend is to focus on the color pink. Decorators advise that themes of femininity and color can also be easily introduced with the simple addition of a ribbon board for keepsakes or a bright, floral lamp in a fabulous shade of rose.

Set decorators for the WB's series Charmed used a neutral palette complemented by shades of pink to create their perfect television nursery. They recently selected an antique white wardrobe and the rose-toned Patricia Royal glider for their on-screen nursery.

And they aren't the only ones thinking pink these days. Jada Pinkett Smith (The Matrix Reloaded actress, wife of Will Smith and mama to baby daughter Willow) and the set decorators for Friends both decided on the handpainted, large-scale Princess wall hanging to complement their nursery settings. So, maybe for the meantime, Hollywood is toning things down a bit with neutral palettes and shades of pink. They're introducing variety and color to Baby's environment with accessories.
