What is Cause.it?

Volunteering app Cause.it attempts to connect local business, nonprofits and volunteers by rewarding do-gooders with discounts in exchange for volunteering their time or social media accounts for nonprofits. Currently, the app is only available in a few cities, but plans are in the works for a full launch that will allow users in any community to get involved.

Say or do

Cause.it users can sign up for a “say cause.” This involves using their personal social networks to help promote a nonprofit by either liking the organization on Facebook or tweeting about it. The idea is that mobile users are extremely social and this is a painless way to get involved. Mobile Cause.it users can also sign up for a “do cause,” an actual volunteer event that they can check into, such as a community recycling event. Either option rewards users with points that can be redeemed for discounts at local businesses. Getting involved with Cause.it is a win for small, local businesses because it brings them extra visibility.
