Although the base of this cocktail is made with a significant amount of dry gin, the sweetness of the Cointreau, the anise flavor from the bitters and the smoothness of the absinthe still manages to shine through.


  • 2 ounces dry gin
  • 1/4 ounce Cointreau
  • 1 bar-spoon sugar syrup
  • 1 healthy dash Peychaud’s bitters
  • Absinthe


  1. Pour a few drops of absinthe into a cocktail glass and rotate the glass until the inside is well coated with the spirit. Fill the glass with ice and then set aside for a few minutes to chill.
  2. Place all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice and slowly stir for 30 seconds.
  3. Discard the ice from the prepared glass and then strain in the mixture; serve immediately.
