A traditional favorite, these sugar cookies are crunchy on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside. For chocolate cookies, omit 1/2 cup flour and add 3/4 cup cocoa.
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 5 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- Dash of salt
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Combine butter and sugar.
- Add eggs, oil, salt and vanilla to mixture.
- Add flour and cream of tartar, mixing thoroughly.
- Form into balls and place on cookie sheet. Flatten each one with the back of a spoon, sprinkling a dash of sugar on top.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until slightly brown on edges.
