This rye-based cocktail is all about big, bold flavor with the key ingredient being the Fernet Branca; an herbal Italian digestive that adds a bitter, slightly herbal and spicy burst of flavor with aromatic undertones. 


  • 2 ounces rye whiskey
  • 1/4 ounce Fernet-Branca
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • dash Angostura bitters
  • orange twist to garnish


  1. Place all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker, except for the orange twist, and then fill with ice.
  2. Slowly stir the mixture for 35 seconds and then strain into a cocktail glass.
  3. Garnish the cocktail with the orange twist and serve immediately.
