This side dish recipe pairs wonderfully with a more mild-flavored main dish meal, as the harissa paste adds enjoyable heat and spicy flavor.


  • 6 medium carrots, peeled
  • 1 tablespoon harissa paste
  • Finely chopped fresh mint or parsley to garnish


  1. Cut the carrots into thick matchsticks and then place in a steamer basket over a saucepan of boiling water. Steam the carrots for 3 minutes and then transfer to a bowl.
  2. Immediately add the harissa to the carrots, toss to coat and then top with the fresh mint or parsley. Serve warm.
