Star Anise and Black Tea-Infused Simple Syrup

You can either make your own simple syrup by heating one part sugar and one part water in a saucepan until all of the sugar has dissolved, over use a pre-purchased variety to make this black tea and star anise infusion.


  • 1 black tea bag
  • 12 ounces simple syrup
  • 6 star anise pods, lightly crushed


  1. Place the tea bag into the simple syrup and let steep for 15 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bag and then add the crushed anise pods to the mixture.
  2. Cover the mixture and set aside for 24 hours before straining through a fine mesh sieve and placing in a airtight glass container until ready to use.
