This strong and potent drink is made with rye whiskey. The robust character of the rye is complimented by a light touch of anise flavor and the complex intensity of the bitters. Topped with champagne and a few dashes of absinthe, this is quite the cocktail.

Ingredients

1/2 teaspoon sugar or 1 sugar cube
2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
2-1/2 ounces rye
2 dashes absinthe
champagne

Directions

Place the sugar and the bitters into a rocks glass. Muddle the mixture so that it coats the bottom and the sides of the glass and then add a few cubes of ice.
Pour the rye into the glass and then top with the absinthe and champagne; serve immediately.
