Completely vegetarian, can also be served as an appetizer. Bad name, good food.


  • 1 can refried beans
  • 1 tub sour cream
  • 1 jar salsa
  • 2 cups shredded cheese, your choice
  • Jalapeño peppers, if desired
  • Black olives, if desired


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a 9 x 13-inch pan, layer the refried beans, sour cream, salsa, and cheese. Top with peppers and olives, if desired.
  2. Bake uncovered until bubbly. Serve with tortilla chips or in a soft taco shell. Note: If you prefer a non-vegetarian dish, this recipe can also be made with ground beef or turkey as the first layer.
