Orange and Strawberry Cardamom Compote

Compote is not only a delicious dessert on its own, but is wonderful spooned over ice cream, angel food cake and oatmeal. 


  • 1 pint strawberries, sliced
  • 4 oranges, peeled and sliced
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2 cardamom pods, crushed


  1. Place all of the ingredients in a large saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.
  2. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer mixture for 5 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
  3. Transfer contents to a glass bowl and allow to cool before using.
