A ‘Streusel’, which is the German word meaning ‘something scattered or sprinkled,’  is a crumbly topping or filling that is usually made with butter, sugar and flour. Use it to top breads, cakes and muffins as a sweet and delicious textured garnish.

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup quick cooking oats
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar

  1. Place the oats, nuts, flour and sugar into a bowl and stir to combine. Using a pastry blender or a fork, cut the butter into the ingredients and mix until the mixture is crumbly; use immediately.
