Mom's Fresh Green Beans

A simple but tasty green bean and potato side dish.


  • 2 pounds fresh green beans, snapped and washed
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 4 slices, thick bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces and fried until crisp
  • 5-6 medium new (red) potatoes, quartered
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons salt


  1. Add the green beans and onion to a greased slow cooker. Mix in the bacon, potatoes and water. Season with the sugar and salt. Cook covered for 3-4 hours on low.
