This spiced cake is moist and sweet. Ideal for potlucks or large family gatherings, especially during the holidays.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons ginger
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup sour cream, divided
  • 2 eggs

Directions

  1. Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  2. Beat in shortening, brown sugar, syrup and 2/3 cup sour cream.
  3. Beat in eggs and remaining sour cream.
  4. Pour batter into two prepared 8-inch round cake pans.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
