This scotch-based cocktail was invented in 1899 in Rochester, New York for Mamie Taylor; a ‘prima donna’ opera singer who was performing in the area at the time.


  • 2 ounces blended scotch
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
  • Ginger beer
  • Lime wheel to garnish


  1. Fill a Collins cocktail glass with ice and then add the scotch and the fresh lime juice.
  2. Top the drink with the ginger beer and then garnish with the lime wheel; serve immediately.
