If the people in Kansas City know anything, it’s that using a dry rub is imperative if you want the taste of your meat to go from ‘meh’ to mouthwatering.


  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup paprika
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons granulated garlic
  • 1/4 cup granulated onion
  • 1/4 cup sea salt
  • 1/4 cup black pepper
  • 1/4 cup cumin
  • 1/8 cup ancho or chipotle
  • 1/4 cup mustard powder
  • 1/8 cup cayenne pepper


  1. Place all of the ingredients into a large Ziploc bag, seal well and then shake vigorously until thoroughly combined.
  2. Rub the mixture onto the meat of your choice and marinate for 24 hours if possible to achieve the best and deepest flavor.
