The Hop Toad dates back to 1917 where it was documented in Tom Bullock’s Ideal Bartender book. Although the ratio of apricot brandy to fresh lime juice is 1:1, the result is a very well-balanced, slightly sweet and citrusy blend.


  • 1 ounce apricot brandy
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • Lime zest twist to garnish


  1. Pour all of the ingredients, except for the garnish, into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake the mixture vigorously for 35 seconds and then strain into cocktail glass.
  3. Garnish the cocktail with the lime zest twist and then serve immediately.
