Honey Nut Pastry is flavored with pecans and walnuts.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds phyllo
  • 1 1/2 pounds butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 pound walnuts, chopped
  • 1 pound pecans, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • Syrup: 8 cups sugar
  • 2 cups honey
  • 4 cups water
  • cinnamon stick
  • juice of 1/2 lemon

Directions

  1. Combine nuts and spices. Grease a 9 by 13 inch baking pan and line with 5 phyllo layers. Sprinkle with some of the nut mixture and cover with 1 layer of phyllo. Repeat until all nuts are used. Top with 5 layers of phyllo.
  2. Melt butter and pour over the top. Cut into diamond shaped pieces. Bake at 250 degrees F for 2 hours. Remove from oven and cover with syrup.
  3. Make syrup by boiling sugar, honey water and cinnamon stick. Remove from heat; add lemon juice.
