This Homemade Cream of Mushroom Soup is rich and delicious and very easy to make.


  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 package dry onion soup mix
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 pounds fresh mushrooms, chopped


  1. Melt butter in a large deep pan. Saute mushrooms and celery briskly to brown mushrooms. Then lower the heat. Throw in soup mix, oregano, flour and stir. It will become very pasty. Slowly add wter, stirring constantly and bring to a boil. Lower the heat to a simmer, cover and cook for 30 minutes. Puree half the soup, then combine slowly. Stir in cream, cook for a few more minutes and add pepper to taste.
