What a treat!  Homemade Chocolate Doughnuts for a special breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons shortening, melted
  • 1 1/2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups flour

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients except 1 1/2 cups flour in bowl, beating until smooth with mixer at low speed. Increase speed and beat for 1 minute longer. Stir in remaining flour to make soft dough. Chill for 1 hour.
  2. Roll out 1/2 inch thick on well-floured surface. Cut with floured doughnut cutter. Deep fry at 370 degrees F.
