Old fashioned hoe cake recipes.
Ingredients
- 2 cups yellow cornmeal
- 1 cup flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 4 tablespoons bacon drippings
- 1 cup milk
Directions
- Mix together the dry ingredients, stir in 1 tablespoons of the bacon drippings and milk. (Add more milk if needed.) Keep the batter stiff to form small, flat cakes.
- Heat the remaining bacon drippings in the skillet, and fry the cakes on medium low heat until browned on both sides. Turn only once.
