First Prize Chocolate Cake wins a Blue Ribbon!
Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 5 eggs
- 4, 1 ounce squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
- 2 1/2 cups cake flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 cup walnuts, chopped
Directions
- Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition. Add chocolate and mix well. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk and vanilla. Stir in nuts.
- Bake in 3 waxed paper lined 9 inch layer cake pan at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Frost as desired.
