Fig and raisin bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups cake flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 pound figs, chopped
  • 2 cups raisins

Directions

  1. Cream together the shortening and sugar until fluffy. Mix in the eggs.
  2. Double sift together all the dry ingredients. Alternately add to the sugar mixture with the water. Fold in the fruits and pour into a loaf pan.
  3. Bake at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 2 hours.
