Feather Chocolate Cake is two layers of fabulous!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3, 1 ounce squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2/3 cup milk

Directions

  1. Cream shortening and sugars; add eggs and vanilla; beat until fluffy. Melt chocolate in hot water over low heat; blend and cool slightly. Add to creamed mixture. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk, beating well after each addition.
  2. Place in 2 waxed paper lined 9 inch round layer cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 to 35 minutes. Frost as desired.
