Easy Homemade Chocolate Cake can be frosted or eaten plain.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1, 1 ounce square unsweetened chocolate, melted
- 1 1/2 cups cake flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup buttermilk
Directions
- Cream shortening and sugar; add egg and vanilla; beat well. Add chocolate and mix thoroughly. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Bake in waxed paper lined 6 1/2 by 10 1/2 inch cake pan at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes.
- Cool completely and frost as desired.
