This sweet and moist bread accompanies tea or coffee well. Walnuts may be used instead of pecans if needed.
Ingredients
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 3/4 cup boiling water
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 3/4 cup chopped pecans
Directions
- Place dates in a bowl and pour boiling water over top; set aside to cool.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease loaf pan.
- Cream butter and sugars; beat in egg and set aside.
- Combine flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Fold into sugar mixture with dates and water.
- Add nuts.
- Pour mixture into prepared loaf pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes.
