Creamy Apple Pie has a lemony cream cheese sauce baked right in.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • grated rind of 1 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 4 cups apples, sliced and peeled
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 stick butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1 unbaked pie crust
  • Cream sauce: 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1, 3 ounce package cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream

Directions

  1. Combine the sugar, cinnamon, salt, lemon rind, flour and lemon juice. Add the apples and coat well. Place mixture in pie crust. Dot with butter.
  2. Cut steam hole in top crust and flute edges.
  3. Bake at 450 degrees F for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 375 degrees F and continue to bake for 45 minutes. Cool 10 minutes.
  4. Make cream sauce. Combine egg, sugar and juice of lemon in a small saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened. Stir in cream cheese and sour cream. Pour into steam hole of pie.
