A refreshing change from heavy mayonnaise-laden coleslaw, this refreshing salad packs both crunch and intense flavor in every bite.


  • 2 tablespoons white balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Pinch of celery seed
  • Pinch of salt and pepper
  • 1-1/2 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1 carrot, peeled and grated
  • 1/4 cup slivered red onion
  • 2-1/2 tablespoons shelled sunflower seeds, toasted


  1. In a medium-sized serving bowl, blend the vinegar, oil, sugar, mustard, celery seed, salt and pepper together with a whisk until combined.
  2. Add the cabbage, carrot, onion and sunflower seeds and toss to combine.
