Here is a great way to get your kids to indulge in a healthy bowl of oatmeal for breakfast. The dates will dissolve in the mixture and provide just the right amount of sweetness.


  • 12 dates, finely chopped
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 cups water


  1. Place the dates, oats, cocoa, salt and water in a saucepan over medium heat, and stir well to combine.
  2. Cook the mixture until thick, stirring frequently to prevent sticking, and then remove from the heat and let rest for 5 minutes.
