Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 can sour pitted cherries, drained
  • 1/2 cup walnuts (chopped)
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Cream shortening, eggs and sugar together in a bowl. Sift all dry ingredients together.
  3. Add to cream mixture alternately with milk.
  4. Blend just until well mixed.
  5. Fold in drained cherries and nuts.
  6. Pour into a greased and floured 9x13 inch baking dish. Bake 40 minutes or until done.
