Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 3 eggs, separated
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 cups chopped cherries, drained
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg; set aside.
  2. Cream shortening, sugar and egg yolks.
  3. Blend flour combination, milk and vanilla into egg mixture.
  4. Fold in cherries, nuts and egg whites.
  5. Pour mixture into prepared loaf pans.
  6. Bake at 375 degrees for 30-45 minutes.
