Carnival Corn Dogs

Bring the carnival to your kitchen.  Delicious, fun to eat corndogs bring back memories of the County Fair.  Try this easy trick:  Pour the cornmeal batter into a tall glass for easy coating.


  • 1 package hot dogs
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 beaten egg
  • wooden skewers
  • Vegetable oil for frying


  1. Dry the hotdogs on paper towel. Insert skewer in one end of each hotdog.
  2. Heat oil to 375 degrees F.
  3. Mix well the flour, cornmeal, sugar, dry mustard, baking powder and salt. Add oil, milk and beaten egg. Mix until batter is smooth. Pour into a tall glass.
  4. Dip the hotdog in the batter until completely coated. Fry in hot oil for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Drain on paper towels.
