Homemade cabbage roll recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 head cabbage
- 1 pound ground pork sausage
- 2 tablespoons onion, chopped
- 1 1/4 cups cooked rice
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 1/4 cups tomato sauce
- 1 cup water
- 3 pounds ham hocks
Directions
- Wash the cabbage. Drop into boiling water for five minutes, drain.
- Combine the sausage, onion, rice, eggs, salt and pepper. Roll in the cabbage leaves and secure with a toothpick.
- Arrange the ham hocks in the bottom of a cast iron pot filled with just enough water to cover the bottom. Arrange the cabbage rolls on top.
- Mix together the tomato sauce and 1 cup of water, pour over the cabbage rolls.
- Cover and cook over medium low heat for 1 hour.
