Homemade cabbage roll recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1 pound ground pork sausage
  • 2 tablespoons onion, chopped
  • 1 1/4 cups cooked rice
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/4 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 pounds ham hocks

Directions

  1. Wash the cabbage. Drop into boiling water for five minutes, drain.
  2. Combine the sausage, onion, rice, eggs, salt and pepper. Roll in the cabbage leaves and secure with a toothpick.
  3. Arrange the ham hocks in the bottom of a cast iron pot filled with just enough water to cover the bottom. Arrange the cabbage rolls on top.
  4. Mix together the tomato sauce and 1 cup of water, pour over the cabbage rolls.
  5. Cover and cook over medium low heat for 1 hour.
