Vanilla buttermilk cake recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoons soda
  • 1 tablespoon hot water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

  1. Cream the shortening and sugar together. Mix in the eggs, 1 at a time, and beat well.
  2. Alternately add sifted flour and salt and the buttermilk.
  3. Dissolve the soda in the water, add in to the batter along with the vanilla. Mix well.
  4. Pour into a tube pan and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes. Reduce heat to 325 degrees Fahrenheit and cook for 20 additional minutes.
