Vanilla buttermilk cake recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups flour
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoons soda
- 1 tablespoon hot water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
- Cream the shortening and sugar together. Mix in the eggs, 1 at a time, and beat well.
- Alternately add sifted flour and salt and the buttermilk.
- Dissolve the soda in the water, add in to the batter along with the vanilla. Mix well.
- Pour into a tube pan and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes. Reduce heat to 325 degrees Fahrenheit and cook for 20 additional minutes.
