Butter Tarts are filled with nuts.

Ingredients

  • sifted flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 10 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped

Directions

  1. Combine 1-1/2 cups flour and salt in a bowl. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Add 3 tablespoons water, mixing well. Divide dough into 24 portions.
  2. Roll out and line tart or muffin cups.
  3. Combine 1-1/2 teaspoons flour with sugars in a bowl. Beat egg, milk and vanilla together in a small bowl. Add to sugar mixture, mixing well. Stir in butter and nuts.
  4. Fill pastry shells. Bake at 425 degrees F for 15 to 20 minutes or until set.
