Bread and Butter Pickles are worth the effort.
Ingredients
- 1 gallon cucumbers
- 8 large onions
- 1/2 cup coarse salt
- 5 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon tumeric
- 2 teaspoons dry mustard seed
- 2 teaspoons dry celery seed
- 5 cups vinegar
Directions
- Slice onions and cucumbers. Sprinkle with coarse salt and let set for 3 hours. Drain and rinse off salt.
- Bring to boil the remaining ingredients. Add cucumbers and heat thoroughly but don't let boil. Put in canning jars and seal.
