Sweet and hearty, Boston Brown Bread is baked in large vegetable cans.
Ingredients
- 1 cup raisins
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons molasses
- 1 1/2 tablespoons shortening
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 3 cups flour, sifted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
- Cook raisins in water. Simmer 10 minutes slowly in covered saucepan. Combine and beat rest of ingredients.
- Grease and flour cans. Pour batter into cans, slightly over 1/2 full. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
