This Blue Ribbon Pound Cake is a true winner.  A  generous slice can be dressed up with strawberries and whipped cream or eaten au naturel.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups butter, softened
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Directions

  1. Sift dry ingredients and set aside.
  2. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time.
  3. Add dry ingredients alternatively with milk and flavoring.
  4. Mix thoroughly with mixer at slow speed.
  5. Grease and flour a 10 inch tube pan. Pour in batter. Bake at 300 degrees F for about 1 hour and 20 minutes.
