Old fashioned black walnut bread from scratch.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 cup black walnuts (finely ground)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Sift together the dry ingredients. Mix together the eggs and milk and add to the flour mixture. Cream in the shortening blending just enough to mix. Fold in the walnuts.
  3. Pour into an 8 inch loaf pan and allow to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes before baking. Bake for 50-60 minutes.
