Old fashioned black walnut bread from scratch.
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 cup black walnuts (finely ground)
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Sift together the dry ingredients. Mix together the eggs and milk and add to the flour mixture. Cream in the shortening blending just enough to mix. Fold in the walnuts.
- Pour into an 8 inch loaf pan and allow to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes before baking. Bake for 50-60 minutes.
