Black Sesame Gomasio

Gomasio is a sesame salt that is made from toasting a mixture of sesame seeds and sea salt together after it has been ground. Enjoy it sprinkled over grain-based dishes for added flavor and depth.


  • 1/2 cup black or brown sesame seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt


  1. Place the sesame seeds in a fine mesh sieve and rinse well with cool water. Transfer the seeds to a bowl and cover with fresh water. Soak the seeds overnight.
  2. Drain the sesame seeds and place in a large sauté pan over medium heat. Cook the seeds until fragrant and popping and then transfer to a mortar and pestle along with the sea salt. Crush the mixture well to combine and then store in a tightly-capped jar in a cool, dark area until ready to use.
