A classic party drink, intended to be enjoyed slowly for several hours.


  • 12 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • 2 1/2 ounces bourbon


  1. Add the leaves to the bottom of a highball glass. Add the water and sugar and use the back end of a wooden spoon to muddle it until the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Fill with crushed ice and slide the remaining leaves down the side of the glass. Pour the bourbon over the top.
