Apple Nut Crumble Pie

This walnut topping will turn an ordinary apple pie into something special.


  • 1 (9-inch) deep-dish pie crust
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 4 cups McIntosh apples, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 6 tablespoons butter


  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, blend together the brown sugar, white sugar, flour, and spices.
  3. Place the sliced apples into the bowl and mix them with the sugar-flour mixture so that each slice is covered.
  4. Pour apples and all filling mixture into the pie shell.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes.
  6. Topping:
  7. Mix the topping ingredients together in a small bowl with a fork until small crumbs form.
  8. Remove the pie from the oven and reduce temperature to 350 degrees F.
  9. Sprinkle topping evenly over the top, until all the apples are covered.
  10. Press down lightly.
  11. Return the pie to oven and bake for about 10 minutes longer, until apples are soft and topping is golden.
